BEHAVIOR - Bitter Bitter LP (LUNGS-093) 'Bitter Bitter' was written and recorded in Los Angeles early last fall, just before the latest drought broke, and just before a cynical national election made the ongoing arrangement very plain. It’s a simple music, crafted according to a shifting ad hoc agreement between three friends who try and share the labor, who borrow promiscuously from whatever finds them, who try and garner enough space to intuit a next stumbling move in restless hopscotch across a pop music tradition that has tallied an unlivable inheritance of promises. There’s a desire for tension, a desire for fraudulent postures, a desire for drama and its perverse digressions. The song is traversed by other songs, the voice is traversed by other voices, the singer never held the title to their own tongue—nosing uninvited into darkened houses for what’s ripe and fermenting. The title of the record is a translation of the name given to the ocean on a Babylonian map thought to be the oldest depiction of the world. The cover is a mask of swatches. A shroud of ribbons. Bitter Bitter is an imprint and an agitation, wrapped like a circus in an exterminator’s tent. Countless fluttering images hoisted like flags above countless shrinking islands in a rising sea. Contempt, mercy, grief and good will. Is it a timely attitude? ALIEN NOSEJOB - Once Again The Present Becomes The Past LP (LUNGS-155) Non-stop rocker Alien Nosejob, aka Jake Robertson, returns to earth with his second full-length record of 2020, finally bringing the high-octane hardcore punk side of the band to an LP. Hot on the heels of January’s "Suddenly Everything Is Twice As Loud" LP, Nosejob carries on their winning streak and wordy album titles with "Once Again The Present Becomes The Past", which instead follows in the footsteps of the November’s "HC45" 7; merging early 80’s hardcore and late 70’s NWOBHM. "Once Again The Present Becomes The Past" started life as a concept record about Australia’s first and largest air raid, the 1942 Bombing Of Darwin. However, while grappling with this heavy subject-matter, something from Norm Macdonald’s book, of all places, stuck with Jake: "The Present Became Past Again". History is forever repeating itself. It continues to happen. It will happen again. As the record took shape, it was fleshed out with the help of his new reel-to-reel recorder, turning crust and hardcore influences into the dark and cold array of songs documented within. Find out why Alien Nosejob is one of the rare signifiers of both quantity AND quality. 300 copies on translucent blue 140gr vinyl come housed in a 24pt jacket with lyric insert and download card. Art by Ginklet. Mastered by Mikey Young. Everything else was done by Alien Jake themselves. NUDITY - Astronomicon LP w/download (LUNGS-062) "Astronomicon features driving uptempo beats, ringing choruses, and twin-guitar harmonies that segue into improvised jams invoking the MC5 at their Sun Ra-channeling best, cruise through talkbox-laden breakdowns and finish with pulse-revving big bang crescendos. Inspiration for the tracks came from places as lofty as long summers spent working fire lookouts on remote mountaintops, to lowly as a need for cathartic musical release after inter-band fights. As its arresting cover imagery (painted by Brittany Stallings) suggests, Nudity pulls listeners to a place where the earthiest, most carnal human attributes bend around to meet supernal desires, while vouching that lovers of grit-filled Rock'n'roll get a headbanging fix. You can liken it to time travel, space travel, or space-time travel, but once on board, Nudity will take you to sonic frontiers in a style all their own. The current lineup might be their most impressive yet, bringing talent from bands such as the Tight Bro's From Way Back When, Hysterics, The Need, Sex/Vid, Broken Water and more." -internet FLESH WORLD - The Wild Animals In My Life LP w/download (LUNGS-064) "It’s not often that fuzzed-out C86 jangle and brash queercore find common musical ground, Flesh World's inception focused less on their other bands (Limp Wrist, Needles and Brilliant Colors), and more on their mutual love for drag shows and punk gigs, as their vision took form in the under dwellings of San Francisco’s DIY scene." -Max Mohenu/Pitchfork The Wild Animals In My Life is the first full album and second 12" sized record for this incredible reverb swarm. Knowing and growing from the past unto now, power is the underlying draw here. Lulled by the fist/pummeled by the euphoria. 1500 copies of 150g black vinyl in a 24pt full color jacket stuffed with a poster and download card. Front cover photo by J. Brian. Layout and additional art by Jess Scott. Engineered by Brad DerManouelian.
